Archeology is a scientific discipline that seeks to reconstruct the history of humanity, from its origins to the present day, based on the material remains that have survived. It is based on the study of objects and traces left in the ground by different human occupations (tools, bones, pottery, weapons, jewelry, clothing, coins, footprints, traces, paintings, buildings, infrastructure, etc.).
Archeology is at the crossroads of science, and since the 1980s, generalists have given way to specialists. Today, archaeologists are scientists and specialists in various fields: archaeozoology, archaeogeography, paleobotany, paleometallurgy, carpology, ceramology, funerary archaeology, and more.
This scientific discipline now also uses new technologies such as satellite detection, digital photogrammetry, and paleogenetic analysis, which is performed on ancient DNA molecules.
