Environmental law cannot be confined solely to the study of public actions.
The most recent examples reveal an undoubtedly growing demand for citizens' direct right to take action against those they believe are harming the environment.
However, beyond this single issue, and more specifically the extremely important issue of compensation for damages, other questions remain. The concept of public interest may no longer be viewed in the same way. The desire to combat climate change also requires the involvement of private actors.
The enforcement of private law contracts sometimes poses difficulties specific to environmental protection, and this is likely to become more frequent in the future.
For twenty years, the clean-up of classified sites has posed numerous difficulties, regardless of whether the operating company is still in business, undergoing restructuring, or even in receivership.
The aim of this event is to go even further and reflect on the concepts and notions of what this private environmental law would entail, and to define, through analysis of the issues and certain problems, what its ambitions might be.
