Summary

Montpellier has always played an important role in the history of science. It owes this to its University, one of the oldest in Europe (1289), its various prestigious Schools, its Laboratories and Research Centers, and thus to the long-recognized quality of its ever-renewed teams of professors, researchers and engineers.
Initially driven by its medical school, the city's scientific influence has expanded over the centuries to include all disciplines. Botany, agronomy, chemistry, pharmacology, physics, civil engineering, hydraulics, biology, electronics, mathematics.... the list is long of the fields and great historical figures from Montpellier who have contributed to the development of science and technology. This rich history deserves to be better known and promoted.
Encouraged by this prestigious past, the present and future of science in Montpellier continue to aspire to excellence.
