Lecture: “Acoustics and Ultrasound: Applications to Humans and Their Environment” UM Thursdays

  • Category:
  • Dates: May 24, 2018
  • Schedule: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Location:

Thursday, May 24, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Institute of Botany, Charles Flahault Amphitheater – University of Montpellier

A conference moderated by Thomas Delaunay, Gilles Despaux, and Emmanuel Le Clézio; researchers at the laboratory ofElectronics and Systems (IES) – M2A Team (Materials, Microsensors, and Acoustics) – University of Montpellier-CNRS.
Ever since Pythagoras, scientists have sought—sometimes with great seriousness—to understand the music of sound waves. The applications of their work are now finding resonance in many diverse fields: music, architecture, industry, and medicine.
The Institute of Electronics and Systems (IES), through its M2A team (Materials, Microsensors, and Acoustics), specializes in the characterization of industrial and biological materials using acoustic methods. Its members are also heavily involved in the academic programs at the University of Montpellier, including the professional bachelor’s degree in “Acoustics and the Sound Environment” and various master’s programs.
Drawing on musical and natural analogies, they will explain the basic principles of acoustics during this evening and present findings and images from international research projects. Through acoustic games, they invite us to immerse ourselves in sound space and imagery, revealing the connections between science and aesthetics.

“UM Thursdays”: a new series of lectures

With its eight faculties, two schools, and six institutes, the University of Montpellier boasts a wealth of instructors andProfessors a wide range of academic disciplines. The university sought to highlight their work and make it accessible to as many people as possible by offering a unique lecture series, with one event per month from October 2017 to May 2018.
