Are social mobility and success truly achieved through merit? Isn’t the American Dream—of someone who builds a life from nothing and, through hard work, becomes a leader in the world—just a myth? Does a meritocratic educational system provide equal opportunities for everyone? Is this system compatible with the democratic ideal upheld in our society? The ideology of merit-based ranking perpetuates many stereotypes in our society.

Lola Guillot, a doctoral student in political science at AgroParisTech, will share her perspective on meritocracy through an original, animated lecture.
