Are social mobility and success truly achieved through merit? Isn’t the American dream—of someone who builds a life from scratch and, through hard work, becomes a leader in the world—nothing more than a myth? Does a meritocratic educational system truly provide equal opportunities for everyone? Is this system compatible with the democratic ideal upheld in our society? The ideology of merit-based ranking perpetuates many preconceived notions in our society.

Lola Guillot, a doctoral student in political science at AgroParisTech, will share her perspective on meritocracy through an innovative, gestural lecture.
