In a context deeply shaped by the consequences of climate change, the issue of water—its resources and uses—requires a deep understanding and a multifaceted analytical approach to guide the necessary actions.

Aimed at the general public and open to the public free of charge, the symposium “Water in Montpellier?” is part of this initiative. It is organized by the Montpellier Academy of Sciences and Letters in partnership with Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, the UNESCO International Center ICIREWARD, and the University of Montpellier.

It also receives financial support from the Aqua-Valley Competitiveness Cluster and the City of Montpellier.

Its objectives

  • to highlight the problems and challenges facing the city of Montpellier and its metropolitan area as a result of climate change and population growth;
  • to highlight the globally recognized excellence of research in Montpellier and to promote local scientific and technological expertise in the field of water;
  • focus on the specific climatic, geological, and hydrographic characteristics of our region;
  • compare research findings, related industrial developments, and their implementation in the field with local stakeholders;
  • Hold a roundtable discussion on local water issues and their implications with local stakeholders, elected officials, scientists, technical experts, and representatives from community organizations.
