In a world profoundly shaped by the consequences of climate change, the issue of water—its resources and its uses—requires a deepened awareness and a multifaceted analysis to guide the necessary actions.

Open to the general public and free of charge, the symposium “Water in Montpellier?” is part of this initiative. It is organized by the Montpellier Academy of Sciences and Letters in partnership with Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, the UNESCO International Centre ICIREWARD, and the University of Montpellier.

It also receives financial support from the Aqua-Valley Competitiveness Cluster and the City of Montpellier.

Its objectives

  • highlight the challenges and issues facing the city of Montpellier and its metropolitan area in light of climate change and population growth;
  • to highlight the globally recognized excellence of research in Montpellier and promote local scientific and technological expertise in the field of water;
  • focus on the unique climatic, geological, and hydrographic features of our region;
  • compare research findings, related industrial developments, and their implementation in the field with local stakeholders;
  • hold a roundtable discussion on local water issues and their implications with local stakeholders, elected officials, scientists, technical experts, and representatives of community organizations.
