Exploring concepts such as displacement, encroachment, growth, and plasticity, the students—guided by their instructors—developed visual artworks across various media, including sculpture, drawing, video, photography, and installation…
The blob, scientifically known as Physarum polycephalum, is a single-celled organism capable of learning and storing information. It can also learn from its counterparts by merging with them. Through various experiments, researchers have found that when placing blobs side by side—one experienced, the other not—the new individual exhibits the same characteristics as the experienced one. This process holds true for all blobs that merge in groups. Once separated, they regain their original memory. However, a blob cut into pieces becomes several individual and completely identical blobs, but these can collaborate to merge again and form a larger specimen capable of finding the exit of a maze by taking the shortest path.
