Proofs of love
By Camille Gharbi, photographer.
This series of photographs seeks to question domestic violence and our response to it, through its most extreme expression: spousal homicide.
By focusing on everyday objects transformed into weapons of crime, Camille Gharbi invites us to take a step back and reflect on acts whose recurrence seems to reveal " a profound societal malaise that it is high time we fully acknowledged."
His intention is as follows: "[...] to address this subject, which is both terrible and so common, I have chosen to focus my photographic work on everyday objects that are transformed into weapons of crime. These familiar artifacts, most of which come from my own home and are photographed against a sober light blue background, do not immediately convey the violence of the acts to which they refer. This distancing requires a moment of reflection. The murders of women by their spouses, ex-spouses, or lovers are not simply isolated cases affecting a certain category of the population."
