The University of Montpellier preserves numerous objects and specimens in a wide variety of fields: astronomy, anatomy, botany, paleontology, scientific instruments, ethnology, mineralogy, and zoology.
Every year in spring, these collections resonate with the vision of one or more contemporary artists.
This is how Judith Rothchild, an American artist living in the South of France, was captivated by the zoology collection, particularly by the sometimes unusual arrangement of the animals in storage. She used it as inspiration for large drawings and mezzotint engravings that are both realistic and humorous, where the framing and angles create poetic or comical scenes.
