Women and Men at Work: Double Standards
This event has already taken place!
A lecture led by Agnès Fichard-Carroll, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Life and Special Advisor on Gender Equality.

Speakers:
- Karen Messing, Professor Emerita in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Université du Québec à Montréal, is internationally recognized for her expertise on the topic of women’s bodies in the workplace.
- Beatrice Barthe, Associate Professor (HDR) in Ergonomics and President of the French-Language Ergonomics Society.
- Florence Chappert, project manager for “Gender, Equality, Health, and Working Conditions” at the National Agency for the Improvement of Working Conditions.
In the labor market, women are still too often viewed as the “second sex”: their bodies, their tasks, and their social roles are frequently relegated to the background. Inappropriate tools, gendered work, the differing impact of work on men and women, persistent inequalities, and taboos: what can we do to improve women’s working conditions? How can we reconcile the fight for equality with the protection of women’s health?
Drawing on excerpts from Karen Messing’s book, three experts—recognized both nationally and internationally for their expertise—will answer all our questions and demonstrate that the issue of women’s bodies in the workplace is central to the topic of gender equality.
