Documentary film and discussion: “The Men of the Century”
This event has already taken place!
A documentary on feminism that gives men a voice.
In Montpellier (Richter Student Center) and Carcassonne (Faculty of Education).
By Laurent Metterie, author, director, and producer, and Camille Froidevaux-Metterie, author, researcher, and professor of political science.
The event will be opened by Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier. Director Laurent Metterie will be in attendance.
What has feminism done to men (or not…)? That is the question posed by the documentary *Les Mâles du siècle*. Some thirty men of all ages and social backgrounds share their views on camera about the place of women in society. Ranging in age from 17 to 95, they include those who were in their 20s during the 1970s—a decade marked by the fight for reproductive rights—and those who are in their 20s today, in the post-#MeToo era. Procreation, work, family, violence, gender, sexuality… the film traces the influence of the different waves of feminism on men. It holds up a mirror to those who wish to question masculinities, their diversity, their taboos, and their own imperatives.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion during which audience members can ask the director questions and discuss the themes explored in the documentary.
The evening will conclude with a social gathering.
