Opening of the event by Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier. In the presence of director Laurent Metterie.
What has feminism done to men (or not...)? This is the question posed by the documentary Les Mâles du siècle (The Men of the Century). Thirty men of all ages and social backgrounds talk to the camera about their perceptions of women's place in society. Aged between 17 and 95, they range from those who were 20 in the 1970s, a period marked by the fight for contraceptive rights, to those who are 20 today, in the post-#MeToo era. Procreation, work, family, violence, gender, sexuality... the film traces the influence of the different waves of feminism on men. It holds up a mirror to those who wish to question masculinity, its diversity, its taboos, and its own injunctions.
After the screening, there will be a discussion session where viewers can ask the director questions and discuss the themes addressed in the documentary.
A moment of conviviality will bring the evening to a close.
