To kick off the 2025 edition of Bar des Sciences, join us for an evening event: "Wasps, bugs, gnats: is the decline of insects really that serious?"

This monthly event, organized by the Science and Society department at the University of Montpellier, provides a forum for dialogue between scientists and citizens on major issues. For this first evening, come and talk to experts to understand the causes and impacts of insect decline on our environment.

Julien Haran, a taxonomist entomologist at CIRAD in Montpellier for 10 years, specializes in the study of weevils, a group of phytophagous beetles, to better understand their role in tropical agrosystems.

Antoine Fraimout, an evolutionary geneticist at the CBGP in Montpellier, studies the rapid adaptation of invasive species to environmental changes. He is a specialist in
ecology and population genetics.

Ennaloël Mateo-espada, an entomologist at OPIE, uses her passion and knowledge of insects and macro photography to popularize entomology among the general public, particularly through podcasts, articles, and conferences.

The Science Bar has become one of Montpellier's flagship scientific culture events, offering a monthly participatory public debate on all aspects of science from January to June. Throughout the season, scientists are invited to engage in a dialogue where their knowledge and practices are shared and discussed.
