Wasps, bedbugs, gnats: Is the decline in insect populations really that serious?
This event has already taken place!
To kick off the 2025 edition of Bar des Sciences, join us for the event: “Wasps, Stink Bugs, and Midges: Is the Decline of Insects Really That Serious?”

This monthly event, organized by the Science and Society Department at the University of Montpellier, provides a forum for dialogue between scientists and the public on major issues. For this first session, join us to discuss with experts the causes and impacts of insect decline on our environment.
Julien Haran, a taxonomic entomologist at CIRAD in Montpellier for the past 10 years, specializes in the study of weevils—a group of plant-eating beetles—to better understand their role in tropical agricultural systems.
Antoine Fraimout, an evolutionary geneticist at the CBGP in Montpellier, studies the rapid adaptation of invasive species to environmental changes; he is a specialist in population ecology and genetics.
Ennaloël Mateo-Espada, an entomologist and research fellow at OPIE, uses her passion and expertise in insects and macro photography to make entomology accessible to the general public, particularly through podcasts, articles, and lectures.
The Science Bar has become one of Montpellier’s flagship events for scientific culture, hosting a monthly participatory public discussion on all aspects of science from January through June. Throughout the season, scientists are invited to engage in a dialogue where their knowledge and practices are shared and discussed.
