5G: Opportunities or Threats?
This event has already taken place!
The video conference is available on YouTube and Facebook.
As part of the “Rendez-vous de l’Eco” series, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Montpellier I (MUSE campus), in partnership with Midi Libre, is hosting a discussion on the topic of 5G onDecember 15, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
As 5G rolls out in France, many questions remain in the public debate. Increased radiation levels and the shift to higher frequencies are reigniting concerns about the health effects of 5G.
A more recent issue is whether it is wise to move toward 5G at a time when we are discovering the extent to which digital technology contributes to energy consumption.
Finally, there are many questions about the added value of this new generation of mobile technology: in what way does 5G represent an improvement over 4G, which still struggles to provide nationwide coverage? Will it duplicate the capabilities of fiber optics? Are France and Europe truly lagging behind the rollouts seen in the United States or Asia?
Panel discussion moderated by Olivier Biscaye, Editor-in-Chief of Midi Libre.
