The challenges of high-performance computing in the exascale era with the adastra supercomputer: what are the scientific challenges? All aboard for the stars!

  • Category: Symposium
  • Dates: May 4, 2023
  • Hours: From 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Location: University of Montpellier, Saint Priest campus, building 2, Jean-Jacques Moreau lecture hall - 860 rue de Saint Priest, 34090 Montpellier

France has acquired a new Adastra supercomputer for scientific research, hosted at CINES, which is one of the most powerful in the world with a peak performance of over 75 PFlops/s, and currently the most efficient in terms of energy consumption. It provides French scientists with massive and innovative computing capabilities for their complex numerical simulation needs.

To mark its inauguration, a symposium is being organized to illustrate and discuss some of the scientific challenges that require such computing power.

Eight presentations will illustrate examples of scientific challenges involving supercomputers. In conclusion, a presentation by the Montpellier Universe and Particles Laboratory, which is dedicated to exploring the universe, from its most elementary constituents to its largest and oldest structures, will guide us on the path of simulation towards the stars!
