Knowledge Wednesdays: “How can we educate those who are not in school?”

Antoine Gentil is a special education teacher. He worked in child welfare services and prisons before founding the experimental Starter program (Grenoble Academy), which takes in 15 ninth-grade dropouts each year. With his team, he supports them until they obtain their high school diploma and choose a career path, working to restore their self-esteem. He is the central character in the inspiring documentary Un bon début (A Good Start) by Agnès and Xabi Molia, who followed him for a year in the Starter class. In 2024, he published Classe réparatoire, un chemin pour se réconcilier avec l'école (Remedial Class: A Path to Reconciliation with School) with Presses universitaires grenobloises.
