The practice of female genital mutilation remains a taboo in the 21st century. A heavy silence surrounds these practices, to the extent that those affected do not dare to speak out. Yet field studies reveal that these practices continue to persist, even within Europe.

Organized by the Montpellier Team for Criminal Law and Forensic Sciences (EDPFM), the conference aims to bring together diverse perspectives on the practice of female genital mutilation, focusing on two main areas of inquiry: theoretical and empirical considerations, and domestic and international perspectives. On a subject rarely addressed as such, the conference will provide an opportunity to assess the current state of affairs and outline medical, legal, and ethical perspectives through insightful presentations by academics and professionals.
