An exhibition that offers a glimpse into the imagination of bears

The bear is a mythical animal that humans have always held in high regard. The subject of legends, feared or adored, praised or demonized, the bear is symbolically deeply rooted in our Western societies.

Designed by the scientific culture department of the University of Montpellier, this traveling exhibition pays tribute to the former king of animals, from prehistory to the teddy bear.

It is structured around three areas:

  • Bears in the wild: a selection of objects and osteological specimens showcasing the great diversity of bears past and present.
  • Bears in literature: a rich collection of works exploring the different representations of this animal in Western culture (children's books, novels, comics, classic texts, etc.).
  • Teddy bears: a collection of teddy bears of all shapes and colors to learn about the scientific process of classification and become a teddy bear expert.

The imaginary world of bears is at the heart of this exhibition, which invites young and old alike on a journey from ursids to teddy bears, punctuated by panels with scientific content richly illustrated with original drawings.

Enjoy your visit in the footsteps of bears... and teddy bears!
