Play “Apnea”

The Master's program in Health Engineering at the Faculty of Pharmacy is staging a play entitled Apnée (Apnea), which raises questions about medical ethics.

The performance will take place on Wednesday, January 31, at 5:30 p.m., in the Flahault lecture hall at the Botanical Institute. It will be followed by a discussion led by philosopher Christelle Nelaton and author Sophie Torresi.

The session is open to everyone, but online registration is required.

Apnéeis a theatrical docu-fiction that uses the prism of the mother-child relationship to show the impact of a child's chronic illness on personal and family life.

The play also recounts the announcement of a transplant, the parents' disagreement with this surgical project, and the consequences of this choice on the therapeutic relationship. Thus, the show links the intimate dimension of illness to the political issues of the doctor/patient relationship. It addresses issues such as medical communication, consent to treatment, decisions on behalf of others, patient rights, and dealing with uncertainty. It aims to fuel the debate on democracy in healthcare.

Apnéewas created in 2022 with the support of the DRAC and the Hauts-de-France Region. Since then, the project has sparked numerous partnerships in the fields of health and human sciences, particularly in the area of ethics.
