Play “Apnea”

The Master’s program in Health Engineering at the School of Pharmacy is presenting a play titled *Apnée* that raises questions about medical ethics.

The performance will take place on Wednesday, January 31, at 5:30 p.m., in the Flahault Auditorium at the Botanical Institute. It will be followed by a discussion moderated by philosopher Christelle Nelaton and author Sophie Torresi.

The session is open to everyone; online registration is required.

"Apnée"is a theatrical docudrama that explores, through the lens of the mother-child relationship, the impact of a child's chronic illness on personal and family life.

The play also depicts the announcement of a transplant, the parents’ opposition to the surgical procedure, and the impact of that decision on the therapeutic relationship. In this way, the production intertwines the intimate dimension of illness with the political stakes of the doctor-patient relationship. It addresses issues such as medical communication, informed consent, decision-making on behalf of others, patient rights, and managing uncertainty. It aims to fuel the debate on democracy in healthcare.

Apnéewas founded in 2022 with creative support from the DRAC and the Hauts-de-France Region. Since then, the project has fostered numerous partnerships in the fields of health and the humanities, particularly in the area of ethics.
