Groundbreaking ceremony for Sud'@lternance

On May 18, 2018, the construction of a space entirely dedicated to apprenticeships will be officially launched on the Montpellier-Sète IUT campus. A highly symbolic groundbreaking for all those involved in the project, who have been working since 2015 on an unprecedented structuring of apprenticeships in the region.

Over 3,000 m² dedicated to apprenticeships

The Maison de l'alternance will house an administrative center as well as innovative learning spaces (such as a learning lab). Its construction goes hand in hand with the CROUS's construction of a residence for work-study students in the immediate vicinity. In all, more than 3,000 m² will be dedicated to apprenticeships on the University of Montpellier's north campus.
Work on the Maison de l'Alternance will cost around 2 million euros. It is being financed by the "Programme d'Investissements d'Avenir" ("work-study training" initiative managed by the Caisse des Dépôts on behalf of the French government), the Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée region, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole and the CFA EnSup-LR. The University of Montpellier is in charge of the project, and the architectural firm Imagine Architecture is in charge of the project.

Unprecedented structuring of regional apprenticeships

This construction is the result of the creation of the CFA EnSup-LR back in 2015, followed by the Sud'@lternance project supported by the CFA EnSup-LR obtaining PIA funding. The CFA EnSup-LR is the fruit of cooperation between the region's 4 universities (Université de Montpellier, Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3, Université de Perpignan Via Domitia and Université de Nîmes) and 2 grandes écoles (Montpellier SupAgro and Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier), supported by the Region and the Rectorat.
To reinforce this partnership dynamic, the 6 establishments of the CFA Ensup-LR decided to submit the Sud'@lternance project, which was selected. Its aim: to promote the development of apprenticeships and position the Region as a training hub for emerging professions (energy, water, chemistry, biomolecules, intelligent networks), drawing on the region's innovative ecosystem (competitiveness clusters and research teams).

• Philippe Saurel, Mayor of Montpellier and President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole;
• Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier ;
• François Roux, lead architect Imagine architecture.
