Key Players and Challenges in Eco-Navigation: The Role of Marinas and Anchorages

  • Category: Interprofessional Meetings
  • Dates: March 23, 2023
  • Hours: From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Location: University of Montpellier, Triolet Campus, Building 31, Peytavin Lecture Hall - Place Eugène Bataillon, Montpellier

This event will take place in person at two locations connected via a two-way video link:the University of South Brittany (UBS) in Lorientandthe University of Montpellier.

These meetings will bring together marine protected area managers, stakeholders in the water sports industry, port managers, scientists, and startups in the sector to discuss:

  • What environmental initiatives have been implemented in ports?
  • What stakeholders, practices, and mobility patterns exist around and originating from the port?
  • Port reception and dry-docking facilities: Where do we stand?
  • Anchorage Sites and ZMELs: A Bridge to Eco-Navigation?

Marinas play a vital role in the ecological transition of the boating industry. Their initiatives and commitments to sustainable boating are on the rise, both through the implementation of programs and in their role as advocates for these values among boaters. Marinas are also home to many operators of diverse and varied water sports activities, offering new experiences and new types of equipment.

After a few legs of the voyage, once we arrive at the anchorage, these locations also serve as sites for marine environmental protection measures, through the implementation of new frameworks and new, less impactful technologies, as well as awareness-raising initiatives.
