Water Week at UM
This event has passed!
From February 12 to 16, 2024, the University of Montpellier will be focusing on the theme of water. Against a backdrop of demographic pressure, tense land use planning, and climate change marked by increasingly frequent extreme weather events, Montpellier's academic and scientific community is mobilizing around this theme through three key events:
- The 23rd Polytech Montpellier water seminar organized by students specializing in Water Science and Technology and students specializing in "Water and Civil Engineering" at Polytech Montpellier, focusing on topics such as megabasin (hydrology), the reuse of wastewater for new purposes (process engineering), and tools for the hydromorphological characterization of watercourses.
February 12–14, 2024
- Awarding of an honorary doctorate from the University of Montpellier to Prof. Soroosh Sorooshian (University of California, Irvine)
February 13, 2024, at 3 p.m.
- The Water4Future Students hackathons organized by the UNESCO International Center at UM Icireward, a competition in which students from around the world will develop innovative projects addressing issues related to water. Participants will benefit from the presence of hydrologist Soroosh Sorooshian and academician Erik Orsenna, who will assist the teams in preparing their presentations.
February 15 and 16, 2024
Ranked first among French universities in the field of water resources in the Shanghai world rankings, the University of Montpellier is recognized as an international hub for water sciences, bringing together 15 research laboratories, 400 scientists, and 150 doctoral researchers. This recognition is particularly evident in the creation, in 2020, of an international center dedicated to water under the auspices of UNESCO: Icireward.
