Sarah is a French astronaut about to leave Earth on a year-long mission called Proxima. While she undergoes the rigorous training required of astronauts, as the only woman among a group of men, she is above all preparing for the separation from her 8-year-old daughter.

"The reason I made the film was to show a superheroine who is also a mother. Cinema doesn't often represent these two things in the same person, as if they were incompatible states... So Proxima's message is that you can do both: be a mother and have a great career. It's a message of liberation" - Alice Winocour.
