Conference: "The Brain in Music"

For its second public event, the COSA group will present, as part of Brain Awareness Week, a double conference on the theme "The brain in music."
Organized in partnership with the Maison des Étudiants, this evening will feature two speakers, Philippe Coubes – musician, neurosurgeon at Montpellier University Hospital, and professor of neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medicine; and Luc Marty, composer and teacher at the Montpellier Metropolitan Conservatory of Music and at Paul Valéry University in musicology.
Moderator: Jean-Olivier Durand, researcher in molecular engineering and nano-objects.
Themusical function defended by Philippe Coubes will concern the experience of music and its stimulating effect on the brain. Neuroscience provides a better understanding of the emotions evoked by music and its impact on human beings. This first lecture will address music therapy and its many therapeutic applications.
A second lecture, initiated by Luc Marty, will address "the song of atoms," a composition based on electron microscopy and the periodic table of elements, in collaboration with Didier Cot and Bruno Navarra from theIEM. Through the beauty, new sounds, and color of his composition, Luc Marty will evoke the stimulating effect of these consonances and their repercussions on emotions and the psyche.

Exhibition: "The Sound of Images"

The lectures will be followed by a debate and accompanied by an exhibition created from scientific and artistic images from the COSA group's research laboratories (ICGM, IES).
These photos, taken from research work in chemistry and electronics, aim to reveal modern science through a playful and aesthetic approach that stimulates the viewer's imagination and reflection, ultimately providing them with an objective explanation of what they are observing.
The COSA group was born out of a shared desire by theCharles Gherardt Montpellier Institute (ICGM), the Institute of Electronics and Systems (IES), ENSAM, and ESBAMA to conduct research and experiments on Research, science, and art, with a view to promoting joint projects at the crossroads of these themes within their respective structures.
