The brain in music" conference

For its second public event, the COSA Group will be presenting as part of Brain Weeka double lecture on the theme of "The brain in music".
Organized in partnership with the Maison des Étudiants, this evening will feature two speakers: Philippe Coubes - musician, neurosurgeon at Montpellier University Hospital and professor of neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medicine; and Luc Marty - composer and teacher at the Montpellier Metropole Conservatory of Music and at Paul Valéry University in musicology.
Moderator: Jean-Olivier Durand, researcher in molecular engineering and nano-objects.
The musical function defended by Philippe Coubes will concern how music is felt and its stimulating effect on the brain. With neuroscience providing a better understanding of the emotions generated by music and its impact on the human being, this first lecture will address music therapy and its many therapeutic applications.
A second lecture, initiated by Luc Marty, will deal with "the song of atoms", a composition based on electron microscopy and the periodic classification of elements, in collaboration with Didier Cot and Bruno Navarra from the University of Paris.IEM. Through the beauty, new sonorities and color of his composition, Luc Marty will evoke the stimulating effect of these consonances and their repercussions on the emotions and the psyche.

The sound of images" exhibition

The lectures will be followed by a debate and accompanied by an exhibition of scientific and artistic images from the COSA group's research laboratories (ICGM, IES).
The aim of these photos, taken from research work in chemistry and electronics, is to reveal modern science in a playful, aesthetic way that stimulates the viewer's imagination and reflection, and ultimately provides an objective explanation of his or her observation.
The COSA group was born of a common desire on the part of theInstitut Charles Gherardt Montpellier - ICGMInstitut Charles Gherardt Montpellier - ICGM, Institut d'Électronique et des Systèmes - IES, ENSAM and ESBAMA, to reflect on and experiment with Research, Science and Art, with a view to stimulating joint projects at the crossroads of these themes within their respective structures.

An event proposed as part of the 20th edition of Brain Week (March 12-18, 2018).
