34th Science Festival: The University of Montpellier Celebrates “Intelligence(s)”

From October 3 to 13, the Hérault will come alive with the Fête de la Science, a national event dedicated to discovering and sharing scientific knowledge. Throughout the department, the public is invited to participate in free activities open to everyone, centered on the theme “Intelligence(s).”

For the tenth consecutive year,the University of Montpellieris coordinating the Fête de la Science in the Hérault department. This anniversary edition offers an exploration of the diversity of forms of intelligence—both human and non-human—with an inspiring program that broadens our perspective on living organisms, technologies, knowledge, and the interactions between species and systems.

Workshops, demonstrations, hands-on activities, games, lectures, performances, and exhibitions —a wide variety of formats will showcase science and innovation, driven by the commitment of numerous figures in the field of science communication.

On this occasion, the public will be able to enjoy a rich, inclusive, and bold program, featuring several highlights designed to bring together young and old alike around the joy of learning and exploring:

  • Leonardology(ies). The regional kickoff of the Fête de la Science in Occitanie will take place on Friday, October 3, at the Léonard de Vinci vocational high school, featuring a day of discoveries and interactions between high school and middle school students, researchers, and science communicators. Workshops, exhibitions, discussions, and artistic creation will be the highlights of this unique event. But the event doesn’t stop at the school’s walls: in an effort to bring science to life for local residents, a walking tour is being organized in the Mosson neighborhood, led by author Nourdine Bara and featuring students from the University of Montpellier.
  • Montpellier Science Village. On the weekend of October 4 and 5, the University of Montpellier’s School of Education (Place Marcel Godechot) will open its doors and offer activities for everyone. Fun and interactive activities, lectures, exhibits, and performances will provide plenty of opportunities to learn about science.
  • The Planète Vivante Festival, taking place in Saint-Gély-du-Fesc from October 9 to 12, features four days dedicated to environmental science, with lectures, film screenings, and performances designed to raise awareness among people of all ages about the importance of preserving our planet.
  • The Futurapolis Santé Festival in Montpellier. On Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th, the Opéra Comédie will host an event highlighting major scientific advances and medical innovations.
