Science at UM [S03-ep11]: Walking at home
This week on A l’UM la science, Benoit Bardy, a researcher at the Euromov digital health in motionlaboratory , explains how we walk in our houses and apartments. For our latest report at Smel, Sébastien Mas presents the Medimeer marine ecology experimentation platform. A program co-produced with Divergence FM and broadcast every Wednesday at 6 p.m. on 93.9.

Christmas is fast approaching, and before we can finally gather around a table laden with food, perhaps you spent this weekend decorating or trying to squeeze a 1.5-meter Christmas tree into a 60-square-meter apartment already cluttered with obstacles.
You have probably noticed on this occasion how each reorganization of your interior space creates a kind of dissociation, as if your body were on autopilot, guided by a memory in which small domestic routes, main roads, paths, and detours are engraved, which we only become aware of when an unexpected obstacle reveals, often in a dramatic way, the mechanics of this intimate cartography.
Our guest today is something of a walking wizard. Benoit Bardy, a researcher at the Euromov laboratory, has taken an interest in how we move around indoors, particularly how we deal with obstacles in our homes, whether they be a table or even a noise. Together with his team, he has just published an article in the journal Frontiers entitled Obstacles shape the way we walk at home.

In the second part of the program, we conclude our series of reports on the Mediterranean coastal environment station with its director, Sébastien Mas, who is also in charge of the Medimeer marine ecology experimentation platform. This facility, which is unique in France and the Mediterranean region, offers cutting-edge scientific expertise in conducting experiments under controlled conditions in the field of marine biology.
