A l'UM la science [S03-ep11] : Walking at home

This week in A l'UM la science, Benoit Bardy, researcher at the Euromov digital health in motionlaboratory , deciphers how we walk in our houses and apartments. For our final report at Smel, Sébastien Mas introduces us to the Medimeer marine ecology experimentation platform. A program co-produced with Divergence FM and broadcast every Wednesday at 6pm on 93.9.

Christmas is just around the corner, and before we can all sit down to a well-stocked table, perhaps this weekend you've been through the decorating stage, or how to fit a 1.50 m tree into a 60 m2 apartment already overloaded with obstacles.

You've probably noticed how each reorganization of your inner space creates a kind of dissociation, as if your body were on autopilot, guided by a memory in which little domestic itineraries, main axes, paths and deviations have been engraved. We only become aware of these when an impromptu obstacle reveals, often in a shattering way, the mechanics of this intimate cartography.

Our guest today is a bit of a walking magician. Benoit Bardy, a researcher at the Euromov laboratory, has been looking at how we move around our homes, and in particular at how we deal with obstacles in our homes, whether a table or even a noise. He and his team have just published an article in the journal Frontiers entitled Obstacles shape the way we walk at home.

In the second half of the program, we close our series of reports at the Station Méditerranéenne de l'Environnement Littoral with its director, Sébastien Mas, who is also in charge of the Medimeer marine ecology experimentation platform. This facility, the only one of its kind in France and the Mediterranean region, offers cutting-edge scientific expertise in controlled experiments in the field of marine biology.

At UM la science you've got the program, here we go!
