A l'UM la science [S03-ep13]: Montpellier's food landscape

This week in A l'UM la science Caroline Méjean, epidemiologist at the Moisa laboratorylaboratory, deciphers our food landscape. Our report takes us on a tour of the Phenodyn platform with Boris Parent. Finally, Christel Tiberi, a researcher at the Geosciences Montpellierpresents her book on the Great African Rift. Broadcast every Wednesday at 6pm on Divergence FM 93.9.

The festive season is behind us, and with it the stress - and the pleasure - of offering your guests a well-stocked table, whether you're a fan of Obelix-style banquets or, on the contrary, an advocate of happy sobriety. At a time when inflation is dominating the headlines, your budget has undoubtedly played a major role in the design of your menus. If you live on the outskirts of town, the prospect of facing traffic jams may also have discouraged you from picking up your seafood platter downtown.

Whatever our reasons, we don't all shop in the same places, and therefore don't all have the same perception of what some call our food environment. To put it briefly: Lidl doesn't attract the same clientele as Biocoop, and Casino doesn't attract the same clientele as the butcher on Place Jean Jaurès, and you certainly won't have the same shopping experience depending on whether you've been to one or the other.

So it's one thing to say it, it's quite another to measure these behaviors, taking into account all the relevant factors to draw the right conclusions in terms of public health, for example. Yet this is the arduous task our guest has set herself. She is a researcher at the Moisa laboratory and is interested in the interactions between food environment and behavior. Her latest study, published in the journal Nutrition en santé publique, is entitled Store-specific grocery shopping patterns and their association with objective and perceived retail food environments. In French: Modèles d'achat d'épicerie et leur association avec des environnements alimentaires de vente objectifs et perçus.

In the second half of the show, we take you on a tour of the M3P high-throughput phenotyping platforms on the Gaillarde campus. This week, Boris Parent takes us on a tour of the Phenodyn platform.

Finally, our last-minute guest is Christel Tiberi, a researcher at Géosciences Montpellier. She will be presenting a new book entitled Le grand Rift africain and a conference on the Tanzanian rift to be held on January 12 from 5.30 to 7pm in amphitheatre 23.01 on the Triolet campus.
