At UM, digital technology is a matter of course

A "digital fountain" for lecturers and students: this connected space enables them to discover or propose innovative projects, which they can explore at their fingertips. And to strengthen the network of former and current students. It's at the UM, and nowhere else...

It was officially inaugurated on Monday January 23. But at the heart of the (S)pace - a dining, meeting and activity area at the heart of the Triolet campus - the digital fountain is already a well-known attraction for UM students.

The digital fountain? A connected place where innovative tactile devices can be used to encourage co-creativity and imagination. Teachers, researchers and students can experiment, discover and propose: projects, applications, events... And have free access to digital tools to which access is usually restricted.

By and for students

The Digital Fountain offers its users a wealth of shared content: digital teaching resources, or documents freely exchanged and useful to their lives as students.

The main aim of this new type of fountain is to encourage the development of 100% student applications and digital projects.

In this way, it enhances the value of their work, providing a place for demonstrating achievements, testing projects in progress or nearing completion, and encouraging interaction between them.

Collaborative tools

The Digital Fountain is more than just a place to meet and share. It encourages the creation of digital projects by providing a team of experts in project support, test and demonstration equipment, a modular space and a production workshop.

It fits in with the general policy of developing digital services for students, particularly in its coupling with university libraries. The fountain will also enable the development of collaborative work tools, which will be made available for free in the BUs, in line with the ongoing transformation of BUs into Learning Centers.

Creating links

A collaborative tool and meeting place, the fountain helps to break down the barriers between different disciplinary "communities", and to create links between them. Open not only to the campus, but also to the city and the world, the fountain is also intended to showcase students' career paths, and to put former and current students in touch with each other. This initiative is in line with the university's professional integration mission, and with the creation of ResUM, UM's professional network.

Here are just a few examples: a music video game, touch optimization of a geolocation application for internships, mapping of contemporary artworks at the University of Montpellier, demonstration of an "Environmental Symphony" application, etc.
