At UM, digital technology is a given

A "digital fountain" for Professors students: this connected space allows users to discover or propose innovative projects, which can be explored at their fingertips. It also strengthens the network of current and former students. It's at UM, and nowhere else...

It was officially inaugurated on Monday, January 23. But at the heart of the (S)pace—a place for dining, meeting, and activities in the center of the Triolet campus—the digital fountain is already a well-known attraction for UM students.

The digital fountain? A connected space where people can gather around innovative touchscreen devices to foster co-creativity and imagination. Professors students can experiment, discover, and propose projects, applications, event activities, and more. They also have free access to digital tools that are usually restricted.

By and for students

The digital fountain offers its users a wealth of shared content: digital educational resources, or freely exchanged documents that are useful for their student life.

The primary objective of this new type of fountain is to encourage the development of digital applications or projects that are 100% student-led.

It thus promotes their work by providing a venue for showcasing their achievements, testing projects that are underway or nearing completion, and encouraging interaction between them.

Collaborative tools

The digital fountain is not just a place to meet and share. It promotes the creation of digital projects by providing everyone with a team of project support experts, testing and demonstration equipment, a modular space, and a production workshop.

It is part of the general policy of developing digital technology for students, particularly in conjunction with university libraries. The fountain also enables the development of collaborative work tools that are freely available in university libraries, in line with the ongoing transformation of university libraries into learning centers.

Build relationships

A collaborative tool and meeting place, the fountain breaks down barriers between different disciplinary "communities" and creates links between them. Open to the campus, but also to the city and the world, the fountain also aims to promote students' careers and bring together former and current students. This initiative is part of the university's mission to promote professional integration and is in line with the creation of ResUM, the UM's professional network.

Some examples of achievements: musical video game, touchscreen optimization of a geolocation application for internships, mapping of contemporary artworks at the University of Montpellier, demonstration of an "Environmental Symphony" application, etc.
