On Thursday, November 10, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Richter Student Center at the University of Montpellier, comedian Antonia de Rendinger will perform an exclusive show for UM students to raise awareness about hazing.

Hazing: An Issue Universities Should Not Ignore

Orientation events are an important tradition for new students: they provide an opportunity to get to know one another, foster a sense of belonging, and start the year off on the right foot—in a spirit that is both fun and focused. While the University welcomes these orientation events, it strongly condemns acts of hazing in which students are forced to submit to humiliating or degrading acts… This year, UM is addressing the issue of hazing in a new way. And what better way to tackle this sensitive topic than with humor, giving everyone the chance to speak out on the matter?

Antonia de Rendinger: artist, comedian—but that’s not all!

The actress, who will soon be performing at the University of Montpellier, is also deeply committed to combating all forms of discrimination. This won’t be the French artist and comedian’s first time doing this: for several years now, Antonia de Rendinger has been visiting the University of Bordeaux to present an exclusive show on “student mental health.” This awareness-raising initiative has been a resounding success, effectively combining information with an opportunity for students to speak freely.

A unique and interactive show that’s “funny yet thought-provoking”

Written specifically for the University of Montpellier, this performance features Antonia de Rendinger interacting with the audience and offers a perfect opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of hazing in a fresh way. Through humor, interaction, and improvisation, the show aims to go beyond simply condemning these dangerous practices by using creativity to perhaps spark new solutions. A novel approach to raising awareness among the student community.
Antonia de Rendinger will be joined on stage by actor Marko Mayerl, as well as by Nicolas Leroy, a first-year Master’s student at UM and pianist.

To discuss all aspects of hazing with the public, the following individuals will also be present:

  • Agnès Fichard-Carroll, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Life at UM,
  • Grégoire Bonzi, a psychologist at the University Health Center,
  • Katarzyna Blay-Grabarczyk, associate professor and associate dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science.

This event is open exclusively to students at the University of Montpellier. It is funded by the CVEC and organized by the UM Student Life Office / Campus Life Department.

Registration is required.
