Call for Applications: CHARM-EU Open Science Recognition Award

We are pleased to announce the opening of the call for nominations for theCHARM-EU Open Science Recognition Award. This award aims to recognize and highlight the contributions of individuals and teams engaged in teaching and research within the CHARM-EU alliance who have demonstrated a strong commitment to open science.

Open science represents a fundamental shift in the way research and knowledge are produced, shared, and used. It is based on the principles of transparency, inclusivity, and collaboration, thereby fostering innovation and societal impact. The CHARM-EU alliance is fully committed to promoting open science as a key pillar of its mission, and this award is a concrete example of that commitment.

Deadline: August 31, 2025 – Target audience: Professors, researchers

Eligibility Requirements

Any individual or team involved in research or teaching activities at CHARM-EU member universities who has implemented open science practices is invited to apply. Applications are open to all academic disciplines.

Categories

  • Individual application: for individuals who have independently applied the principles of open science to improve their institution’s processes.
  • Team application: for groups that have implemented open science practices as part of collaborative projects or tasks.

Important: A staff member may submit an individual application and also be part of a team application, provided that the activities described are distinct.

Evaluation Process and Criteria

Each application will be evaluated by a panel of experts in open science from each member institution of the CHARM-EU alliance. Applications will be assessed based on their alignment with the principles of open science and the impact of the activities described.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Relevance to open science and citizen science
  • Successful implementation of the principles of open science (transparency, reproducibility, etc.)
  • Successful implementation of digital sustainability (appropriate use of open licenses, reliable digital services)
  • Collaboration and Community Engagement
  • Benefits for the research community

Awards

  • Individual application: The recipient will have the opportunity to visit one of the CHARM-EU* sites to consult with local experts on strategies and practices for promoting open science. This visit will foster knowledge exchange and collaboration with the local community.

  • University of Barcelona (Spain)
  • Trinity College Dublin (Ireland)
  • University of Utrecht (Netherlands)
  • University of Montpellier (France)
  • Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest (Hungary)
  • Åbo Akademi University (Finland)
  • Ruhr-West University of Applied Sciences (Germany)
  • Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg (Germany)
  • University of Bergen (Norway)
  • Team applications: The winning team may choose between two options: either a representative visits one of the CHARM-EU sites, or the team invites an expert (preferably with a background in open science) from a CHARM-EU member university to their institution through the CHARM-EU mobility program.
