Call for projects: Science-Society Relations – I-Site Program of Excellence
As part of the I-SITE Excellence Program, the University of Montpellier is launching a call for projects entitled "RELATION SCIENCE-SOCIÉTÉ" (SCIENCE-SOCIETY RELATIONSHIP), open to all institutions and organizations in the consortium. This unprecedented call for projects is part of a strategy to disseminate research generated in our region and its challenges, particularly to young people and schoolchildren (primary to high school), and aims to support innovative actions specifically aimed at young people and schoolchildren with the main objective of stimulating initiatives for sharing knowledge, dialogue, methods, results, challenges, and questions around scientific themes.

OBJECTIVES
This call for proposals aims to support innovative actions specifically targeting young people or schoolchildren, with the main objective of promoting initiatives for sharing knowledge, dialogue, methods, results, issues, and questions relating to scientific topics.
The proposed scientific culture projects (exhibitions, discussions, scientific workshops, board games, educational notebooks, multimedia works, etc.) must be based on research results, knowledge, and/or expertise recently generated by the project leader or their team. Measures proposed to promote equal opportunities (for audiences "remote" from science) to facilitate access to higher education will be encouraged.
The scientific culture services of the University of Montpellier will be able to provide support for selected projects in the following areas: networking with stakeholders and events in the Regional Scientific Culture Network, advice on scientific mediation, dissemination, communication, and press relations as needed.
ELIGIBLE EXPENSES
- operating costs and purchase of consumables justifiable in cost accounting;
- investment costs, purchase of equipment;
- internship stipend – Civic service;
- services directly related to the project (graphic or multimedia services, Fablab, museology, reprography,
facilitation (e.g., the researcher co-designs the facilitation process and a CS association handles the facilitation in front of the audience); - Human resources, expenditure on temporary staff hired by the University or, in exceptional cases, by a supervisory body of the partner research unit (student work, additional teaching assignments, etc.).
Reminder: laboratory management costs are not eligible.
MAIN SELECTION CRITERIA
- nature of the scientific content related to the research topics of the project leader(s);
- appropriateness of actions/target audiences;
- feasibility of implementation and partnerships established;
- originality/innovation of the mediation methods envisaged, transdisciplinary dimension;
- Overall impact envisaged over the period of implementation of the actions (number of participants, types of audience, quality of interaction);
- impact of the project in terms of the University's visibility and influence.
Budget allocated to this call for proposals:€
50,000 over two campaigns (fall 2022 & fall 2023) – Grants will be capped at €4,000 per project.
Submission method:
Projects must be submitted in PDF format using the attached template.
Maximum project duration:
2 years.
EVALUATION COMMITTEE
Chaired by the VP responsible for Science-Society Relations and composed of the Director of the DCSPH, the two heads of the CS departments attached to this directorate, a member of the UM Research Committee, a representative from Institut Agro, ENSCM, and external experts (approx. 2).
PROVISIONAL SCHEDULE FOR THE FIRST CAMPAIGN
- Launch/opening of the AAP: October 5, 2022.
- Deadline for submitting proposals: November 2, 2022 (11:00 p.m.) Evaluation committee: November 2022.
- COMIS decision: December 6, 2022.
- Project start date: January 2023 (for a maximum of two years).
