Steering Committee for the Ecological Transition Master Plan: Driving Action

The first steering committee meeting for the Ecological Transition Master Plan (SDTE) was held on November 15, 2024. Attended by all of the university’s vice presidents, the meeting was chaired by President Philippe Augé and Frédérique Carcaillet, Vice President for Environmental Issues.

The SDTE Steering Committee, which brings together all of the University’s policy-makers, is tasked with providing political guidance for the implementation of initiatives aimed at promoting the ecological transition. These meetings also serve as opportunities to look toward the future and define new initiatives to be implemented, thereby helping to bring the University’s ecological transition policy to life. This committee also serves as a platform for dialogue and exchange to address more complex initiatives and identify areas for improvement.

One of the SDTE’s key concerns is the evolution of educational programs to better address the challenges of the ecological transition. Given the diversity and wide range of disciplines, supporting the greening of academic units and programs presents a real challenge that often requires specific approaches. Furthermore, questions have been raised regarding the training of teachers and Professors, who are already heavily burdened by their many responsibilities: how can we create conditions conducive to the training of educators?

The SDTE Steering Committee serves as a key hub in the University of Montreal’s ecological transition efforts. By fostering dialogue and monitoring the actions taken, it provides an opportunity to assess progress and plan future initiatives. As a platform for exchange, it plays a vital role in identifying solutions and ensuring the University’s long-term commitment to sustainable development.
