As part of the “Rendez-vous de l’Eco” series, the Faculty of Economics, in partnership with Midi Libre, is organizing a roundtable discussion on the topic: “Should we still be talking about growth and innovation in the face of post-crisis challenges and the demands of the ecological transition?” The event will take place on February 15, 2022, via videoconference.
The concepts of innovation and growth are often at the center of both public and academic debates. In the post-pandemic context, some still view innovation as a driver of growth and wealth creation, or even as a solution for ensuring the ecological transition and a more equitable distribution of wealth. For others, innovation is a dead end, and growth is, at best, a pipe dream, and at worst, an obstacle to the preservation of natural resources.
Economists today point to the slowdown in productivity gains and see it as a sign that disruptive innovations—including in the digital sphere—are running dry. Others point out that the wave of digital innovation is, after all, quite recent; that the adoption and use of digital technology remain limited in businesses and government agencies; that many gains are not captured by accounting models; and that artificial intelligence, 5G, blockchain, and quantum computing are still in their infancy…
It is on this topic, as well as in light of the debates that will dominate the upcoming election cycle, that we propose to focus the next Rendez-Vous de l’Eco.
Panel discussion moderated by Olivier BISCAYE, editor-in-chief of Midi Libre.
Speakers:
- Philippe Askenazy, Research Director at the CNRS and Professor at the ENS
- Gilbert Cette, Professor at NEOMA Business School
- Elie Cohen, Research Director at the CNRS
- Eric Labaye, President of École Polytechnique
The roundtable discussion will take place on February 15 at 6:00 p.m. via videoconference.
