As part of the "Rendez-vous de l'Eco" series, the Faculty of Economics, in partnership with Midi Libre, is organizing a round table discussion on the theme: "Should we still be talking about growth and innovation in the face of post-crisis challenges and the demands of ecological transition?" February 15, 2022, via videoconference.

The concepts of innovation and growth are often at the center of public and academic debates. In the post-pandemic crisis context, some still consider innovation to be a driver of growth and wealth creation, or even a solution for ensuring ecological transition and better distribution of wealth. For others, innovation is a dead end and growth is, at best, a pipe dream and, at worst, an obstacle to the preservation of natural resources.

Economists are now highlighting the slowdown in productivity gains and see this as a sign of the exhaustion of disruptive innovations, including in the digital field. Others point out that the wave of digital innovation is still relatively recent, that the spread and use of digital technology is still limited in businesses and government agencies, that many gains are not captured by accounting models, and that artificial intelligence, 5G, blockchain, and quantum computing are still in their infancy...
It is on this subject, and in view of the debates that will dominate the next election, that we propose to devote the next Rendez-Vous de l'Eco.

Round table moderated by Olivier BISCAYE, editorial director of Midi Libre.

The speakers:

  • Philippe Askenazy, Director of Research at the CNRS and Professor at the ENS
  • Gilbert Cette, Professor at NEOMA Business School
  • Elie Cohen, Director of Research at the CNRS
  • Eric Labaye, President of École Polytechnique

The round table discussion will take place on February 15 at 6 p.m. via videoconference.
