Emilie Motais de Narbonne: “To achieve an even better ranking”

Emilie Motais de Narbonne, a student at the Montpellier Institute of Physical Therapy, won the university weightlifting championships in the under-64-kilogram category, which took place on March 23 and 24, 2024, in Orléans.

78 kg in the snatch and 96 kg in the clean and jerk—that’s the total weight Emilie Motais from Narbonne managed to lift at the university championships held on March 23 and 24, 2024, in Orléans. This feat not only earned her the top spot on the podium but also allowed her to break two university records and one French record in a sport she has only been competing in for two and a half years.

A packed schedule

The young woman from Réunion, a native of Saint-Pierre and a member of the Toulon club, discovered weightlifting at the start of her studies in sports science. It quickly became a passion for the athlete, who trains“three hours a day, four times a week.”  It’s a demanding schedule that isn’t always easy to balance with her classes at the Institute of Physical Therapy in Montpellier, where she is in her third year:“Of course, weightlifting doesn’t prevent me from pursuing my studies, but for competitions I sometimes have to leave as early as Friday evening, which can cause me to miss classes.”

Her career goal:“to become a sports physical therapist.” As for weightlifting, Emilie Motais from Narbonne hopesto “compete in the French championships again to improve her ranking”and has her sights set on the European championships.
