Imagine the stress an international student feels when arriving alone at the airport or train station in a country they’ve never been to before… Imagine how difficult it is for them to find their way around a city and a campus, and to complete certain tasks, such as opening a bank account or setting up a phone line…
The result of a partnership between the Crous de Montpellier-Occitanie and the ComUE Languedoc-Roussillon Universités, the international mentoring program is a personalized support system for international students—whether on individual study abroad programs or exchange programs—who have recently arrived in Montpellier, Nîmes, or Perpignan.
Welcoming, supporting, and guiding international students from the moment they arrive in the city—these are the roles of the mentors in the International Mentoring Program. During the first two months after their arrival—in September and October 2019—mentees are met individually to help them successfully integrate into their academic institutions and the city.
International sponsorship is a free, volunteer-based program.
What are the requirements to become a sponsor?
- be a student (French or international);
- have completed at least one year of study in Montpellier, Nîmes, or Perpignan;
- be fluent in French and have a good knowledge of English and/or Spanish;
- have some free time (about 20 hours between September and October 2019).
