In memory of Claude Lenfant, Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Montreal
Dr. Claude Lenfant passed away at the age of 94.
Former director for 21 years of the NHLBI (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute) at the prestigious National Institute for Health in Bethesda (USA), he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Montpellier in 2001. Most of his work focused on asthma, raising public awareness, teaching and training healthcare professionals, and promoting excellence in Research creating the Global Initiative for Asthma consortium, an academic thesaurus on asthma that is now world-renowned, widely adopted, and constantly updated.
An inspiring and visionary man, many consider him to be one of the key figures responsible for reducing mortality linked to this disease by more than 80% worldwide.
