In memoriam Claude Lenfant, Doctor Honoris Causa of the UM

Dr Claude Lenfant passed away at the age of 94.

A former director for 21 years of the NHLBI (National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute) within the prestigious National Institute for Health in Bethesda (USA), he was appointed Dr Honoris Causa of the University of Montpellier in 2001. Most of his work has focused on raising public awareness of asthma, teaching and training healthcare professionals, and promoting excellence at Research by creating the "Global Initiative for Asthma" consortium , an academic asthma thesaurus that is now known and adopted worldwide, and constantly updated.

An inspiring and visionary man, he is considered by many to be one of the major players in reducing mortality from this disease by over 80% worldwide.
