The Quality Initiative at UM
Dedicated to serving students, staff, and partners, the “quality initiative” is now a top priority for universities. Education, research, governance… many areas are involved. At UM, quality is built step by step through a process that has been underway for several years.

Why implement a quality management system?
- to better meet the needs and expectations of our students, our partners, and our staff,
- to optimize our resources and improve our operations,
- to build trust with our partners by having our management system assessed by an external, independent body,
- to increase its visibility both nationally and internationally by obtaining ISO 9001 certification.
How? A step-by-step guide
The University of Montpellier has decided to roll out the initiative in phases, within defined areas, with the goal of achieving certification in those areas and then using the results obtained to continue the rollout.
In addition to the quality initiative led by the university’s central administration, the University of Montpellier’s academic departments, schools, institutes, and research units have undertaken their own initiatives, some of which have resulted in certifications or accreditations.
What are our results, and where are we headed?
The culmination of this proactive quality initiative is the attainment of ISO 9001:2015 certification, a well-known and widely recognized standard both nationally and internationally. To date, the following are certified:
