I choose the UM!

Like 49,000 students today, come and study at one of Europe's leading universities. To secure your future, join the UM community! Here's a selection of the many advantages offered by the University of Montpellier.

I choose: a university steeped in history with a strong identity

Heir to the medieval Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier (1220), the University of Montpellier boasts a exceptional historical heritage. Rooted in the history of its city and region, the UM is one of Europe's oldest practising universities. Marked by this heritage, which has forged its identity over the centuries, the University of Montpellier today federates its community around two unshakeable values: success based on merit and equal opportunity.

Paying homage to the men and women who have shaped its history and left their mark - Nostradamus, Paul Valéry, Jean Moulin and the current President of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia, Salhe-Work Zewde - the UM is now committed to perpetuating these values for future generations.

I choose: excellence in education and research

The world's No. 1 university for ecology in the prestigious Shanghai ranking, the UM is also one of the world's top 300 universities.

A research-intensive university with 78 research facilities in 9 scientific departments, the UM also offers a range of courses tailored to each student's plans for success: science and technology, law, economics, environment, administration, management, medicine, pharmacy, physical and sports activities, biology, computer science, educational science, political science...

The range of courses on offer includes a vast array of highly professional disciplines at Bachelor's, Professional Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral levels. These excellent courses are accompanied by an extremely high rate of professional integration of graduates: 94% are employed 30 months after graduation.

I choose: a university open to the world

Resolutely open to the world, the UM has made the quality and influence of its international relations a priority. It supports and develops the mobility of its students, multiplying its international partnerships, bilateral agreements and Erasmus accords with the most prestigious European universities.

The UM also enjoys international recognition in a wide range of scientific fields (biology-health, agri-environment, chemistry, information and communication sciences and technologies, law, etc.).

While giving priority to partnerships with major universities (UC Davis - California, KPUM - Kyoto) and foreign establishments of excellence, the University remains more than ever aware of the need to contribute to the cultural and scientific development of so-called "emerging" countries. One of the many examples of this is the University's involvement in the fight against Ebola in Guinea, which last year led to the creation of a cutting-edge research center on this virus and, more broadly, on infectiology.

I choose: to contribute to the MUSE project

In February 2017, the MUSE (Montpellier UniverSité d'Excellence) project, spearheaded by the University of Montpellier, was awarded the I-Site label of excellence, with a substantial financial endowment from the Programme d'Investissements d'Avenir.

Joining the University of Montpellier means embracing the 3 major societal challenges of the 21st century, which the establishment intends to tackle alongside 18 other establishments (research bodies, schools, healthcare establishments and an international organization) grouped together in a consortium: feeding a world population that will reach 9 billion by 2050; protecting and sustainably managing natural resources and ecosystems; helping humanity to cope with cancer, chronic and emerging diseases.

I'm from UM: testimonials

"Je viens de l'UM" is a series of videos from the University of Montpellier. Intimate portraits of students or former students who shed light on their choice of training. Discover the first 3 episodes of this series...

Tiffany Monfort (science curriculum)

Tiffany Monfort has always had an ecological bent. The 22-year-old, who grew up in an unspoilt seaside environment, is currently completing a master's degree in ecosystems at the UM Faculty of Science.
The granddaughter of an English botanist who undoubtedly passed on his interest in plants and the protection of nature, Tiffany now aspires to work in a profession closely linked to the protection of marine ecosystems. This could be as soon as she finishes her Master's degree or, why not, at the end of a doctoral thesis, which she could well embark on in the months to come.

Christophe Bonnel (health curriculum)

Christophe Bonnel is a doctor at Montpellier University Hospital, where he is responsible for supporting innovative medical projects. A former emergency doctor turned medical innovation entrepreneur, he now works with nursing staff to develop technologies that benefit patients.
Christophe's vocation, formed on the benches of the UM Faculty of Medicine and fascinated by the workings of the body, was born in the aisles of the anatomy museum where he regularly visited as a child. A vocation that has become a real passion, and which he sums up today in a simple mantra: "Dare to be useful!

Cécile Lefrançois (law studies)

Cécile Lefrançois is a doctoral student in criminal law at UM's Faculty of Law and Political Science. She set her sights on a career in law at an early age, wanting to become a lawyer specializing in the defense of "children and women" from an early age.
A lecturer in family law and special criminal law, Cécile now aspires to become a teacher-researcher in criminal law, which she believes "best protects the integrity of the human person".
