La Jane, the must-attend event for a successful transition

On September 18 and 19, 2024, the Jardin des Plantes was transformed into a festive and welcoming venue to welcome new students during the Jane. It was an opportunity to introduce students to the wide range of activities and services that bring the University of Montpellier to life throughout the year. It was a wonderful way to start the year by meeting the various members of the university community.

It returns every year, invariably following the start of the academic year: “La Jane,” the orientation day for new students. “La Jane” is now in the plural, as this year’s event—organized by the Office of Student Life (BVE)—spanned two days, “These days are an opportunity for new students to familiarize themselves with the university’s services, the resources available to them, and the many student organizations. They can also meet various cultural and institutional partners,” explains Alexane Lequart, student vice president at the University of Montpellier.

More than 4,000 students were able to attend this event organized specifically for them, which spanned two days and featured three themed areas and more than 60 booths.

Your chance to receive the new edition of the student handbook

A resource guide designed to help newcomers find all the information and contacts they need to best organize their studies as well as their cultural, athletic, and social lives.

“This year, we wanted to focus our efforts on raising awareness about sustainable development, which is why we decided to create a guide that reflects this. It’s particularly useful when a student has a question about a specific service and doesn’t know who to ask. In this guide, they’ll find plenty of information as well as essential contacts! It also lists all available resources and the directory of student organizations,” explains Alexane Lequart.

The University Services Village

Among the support resources available are a variety of workshops, ranging from skills development to stress and time management.

Each department and division has a clear role within the institution: career guidance, psychological counseling, assistance with finding internships and jobs… All work together to ensure the well-being of the students.
