# La Science s'aMuse: De la "reuse" aux chambres de culture

Welcome to La science s'aMuse, the scientific program co-produced by the UM and Divergence-FM, which takes you on a cruise through the archipelago of Muse laboratories. This week, Julie Mendret from theEuropean Membrane Institute talks about wastewater reuse and Benjamin Perret from BPMP opens the doors of his culture chambers.

I can't hide the fact that the week got off to a very, very bad start here. It was to be expected, but there you have it! By drawing on our reserves, without anticipating the future, we found ourselves without a single drop of water on board. Panic among the passengers, anger among the crew - in short, we were on the verge of mutiny! And if we managed it this time, it was thanks to the presence in our ranks of specialists in "reuse", in other words, the reuse of waste water. This is a response to the challenges of climate change, which could help to alleviate the pressure on water resources, thanks to the numerous quantitative and qualitative advantages that reuse offers in terms of limiting water consumption. Our guest today is Julie Mendret, a researcher at theEuropean Membrane Institute (IEM), whose work reminds us that, faced with the looming global water shortage, we're all in the same boat.

In the second half of the program, our feature sequence "In the engine room" takes us to the Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Physiology Laboratory (BPMP). Benjamin Péret, research director at the CNRS, will take us on a tour of the culture chambers where he observes the strange roots of lupins. Finally, Amrin will join us for her special start-up column, and we'll talk quinoa.
