The “Moment-UM” project led by the University of Montpellier, with funding of over €3.6 million over 10 years

As part of France's fourth investment plan for the future, France 2030, the National Research Agency Research ANR) has launched a call for projects entitled "Accelerating the development strategies of higher education and research institutions " (ASDESR) with the aim of helping higher education and research institutions increase their own resources to deploy innovative projects led by their staff and teams thanks to the additional funds thus obtained. Institutions could apply in various areas (lifelong learning, sponsorship, European funding, or heritage promotion). The University of Montpellier, one of the 44 winning institutions with its Moment-UM project, will receive €3.6 million in funding over 10 years.

Another success for UM as part of its investment program for the future. This project is part of the collective momentum of the Montpellier site, which has been reinforced since it was awarded the I-SITE label, with successes in calls for projects such as "Structuring Training through Research (SFRI), "Inter Disciplinary In Lab" (IDIL), "Integration and Development of IdEx and ISITE " (Ideas), "Excellence in All Its Forms" with the ExposUM project, and more recently by becoming a University Innovation Hub.

This funding will enable two initiatives to be launched , as the Moment-UM project, focusing on the "Europe" and "Lifelong Learning" (FTLV) components, will promote the influence of UM laboratories in the European Research Area and strengthen the lifelong learning offering in the region. State aid is focused on human resources in order to enable the recruitment of staff with specific skills. A total of 14 new staff members will be recruited at UM, 8 for the "Europe" component and 6 for the "FTLV" component.

A strategy for Europe: submitting more European projects

The main objectives of this initiative are to increase European funding for research projects, boost participation, and encourage French universities and their scientific communities to raise new funds to develop their activities and influence on the national, European, and international academic scenes, drawing on partnerships at the site level. The European component of Moment-UM will be closely coordinated between UM and three national research organizations based in Montpellier: CNRS, INSERM, and IRD. With enhanced support for researchers, both upstream and downstream of projects, and greater sharing of best practices, Moment-UM will create a new dynamic, thereby increasing the number of projects submitted to Europe and improving the success rate. The 10-year goal is to increase the success rate for European projects from 15% to 25%.

A strategy for "lifelong learning": responding to new needs

Lifelong learning is the second lever highlighted in this call for projects to promote a sustainable policy for developing the university's own resources. With Moment-UM, the development of tailor-made training courses that meet the specific needs of businesses will be reinforced by the recruitment of a team of experts who will identify motivated trainers in order to quickly develop and implement the courses. This change in approach should enable the continuing education department to better position itself in the competitive professional training market and, as such, generate additional own resources for the University of Montpellier. This part of Moment-UM, leading to "More continuing education," will be managed entirely by UM.
