# La Science s'aMuse: Sars Cov-2 and its variants

Welcome to a new edition of La science s'aMuse, the scientific program co-produced by the UM and Divergence-FM, which takes you on a cruise through the archipelago of Muse laboratories. Our guests this week are Samuel Alizon and Mircea Sofonea. They are epidemiologists at Mivegec and last February produced a report showing the rapid progression of Sars Cov-2 variants. They tell us about it in a thirty-minute long-form interview.

And once again this week, we're bringing you a hot topic. A hot topic that's not spoilt for choice, even if it may not seem very varied given the incredible reality that this virus has made us live with over the past year. From the Vendée to the Var, via the Vienne and the Vosges, we're all invariably talking about variants. While our travels become virtual and our dreams of escape abort, they fly from one town to the next. Viral rivals of covid 2020, virulent in the English version or versatile in the South African variety, their evolution in the face of the vaccine has Minister Véran in a tizzy, and us along with him.

So, because one informed listener is worth two, let's take a look at today's guests Samuel Alizon and Mircea Sofonea. In February, they wrote an analysis of the spread of these "variant" strains and announced, a little before anyone else, that their spread was perhaps a little more advanced than we thought...
No second part of the program today, as we're offering you a long-form interview.

La science s'aMuse, you've got the map, let's get on board!
