# Science Fun: SARS-CoV-2 and its variants
Welcome to this new episode of La science s’aMuse, the science program co-produced by UM and Divergence-FM that takes you on a cruise through the Muse laboratory archipelago. This week, our guests are Samuel Alizon and Mircea Sofonea. They are epidemiologists at Mivegec and last February published a report showing the rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 variants. They talk to us about it in a 30-minute interview.

And this week, we're bringing you another topical subject. A hot topic that's still relevant, even if it may seem a little repetitive given the unbelievable reality that this virus has forced us to live with for the past year. From the Vendée to the Var, via the Vienne and the Vosges, we're all talking about the same thing: variants. While our travels have become virtual and our dreams of escape have been dashed, they are flying from one city to another. Viral rivals of Covid-2020, virulent in the English version or versatile in the South African variety, their evolution in the face of the vaccine is throwing Minister Véran and us into disarray.
So, because an informed listener is worth two, let's take stock with our guests today, Samuel Alizon and Mircea Sofonea. In February, they conducted and wrote an analysison the spread of these strains, referred to as "variants," and announced, slightly ahead of everyone else, that their spread was perhaps a little more advanced than we thought...
There will be no second part to today's program, as we are offering you a long-format interview.
