European Heritage Days at the University of Montpellier!
As it does every year, the University of Montpellier (UM) is hosting its traditional European Heritage Days on the weekend of September 16–17, 2023, at the Jardin des Plantes and the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Montpellier. On the program: guided tours of the faculty and the Jardin, featuring the special reopening of the Orangerie’s summer exhibition, “The Memory of Walls: A Photographic and Poetic Inquiry by Marc Dantan,” which attracted more than 7,000 visitors this summer.

An exceptional heritage at the Jardin des Plantes of the University of Montpellier
From 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2023
In celebration of European Heritage Days, several themed guided tours of the Jardin des Plantes will be offered by professors, botanists, and the Apis Schola association on Saturday, September 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as a special reopening of the Orangerie’s summer exhibition on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.: “The Memory of Walls: A Photographic and Poetic Inquiry by Marc Dantan.”
The University of Montpellier boasts numerous remarkable buildings, some of which are designated as historic monuments, that are integral to its teaching and research activities across a wide range of scientific fields. Among them are the historic building of the Faculty of Medicine, the Institute of Botany, and the Institute of Biology. With a view to documenting these buildings, particularly those undergoing restoration and renovation, a photographic project was commissioned from Marc Dantan in 2022. Far from being merely commemorative, these photographs offer a poetic perspective on spaces largely unknown to the general public. The exhibition thus invites visitors to share in this sensory experience at the Orangerie of the Jardin des Plantes, an iconic building of the University of Montpellier listed as a historic monument.
Guided tours of the School of Law and Political Science
Saturday, the 16th, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
As the successor to the Montpellier School of Law, founded in 1249, the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Montpellier is home to 6,000 students. A leading institution, it trains the lawyers of tomorrow as well as future professionals in fields related to political science. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore this unique site during two guided tours offered as part of European Heritage Days (at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; free with registration). Due to restoration and renovation work, the University of Montpellier will not be offering tours of the historic Faculty of Medicine building or the Faculty of Pharmacy this year.
