The UM reaffirms its commitment to the inclusion of LGBT+ people in higher education
A pioneer in the field of inclusion, the University of Montpellier; the first French university to have signed in 2016 the charter of theAssociation l'Autre Cercle in favor of the inclusion of LGBT+ people at work, today renews its commitment. A new signing of the Education LGBTQIA+ Commitment Charter was held on November 4, 2025 at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space.

This initiative is in line with the actions undertaken over the last few years. Already in 2022, the UM had reaffirmed its commitment by officially renewing the charter at a ceremony held on campus, in the presence of Minister Sylvie Retailleau. With this new act, the University of Montpellier confirms its commitment to ensuring a respectful and inclusive study and work environment for its entire community: students and staff, whatever their gender identity or sexual orientation.
Four structuring objectives
The charter is based on four main lines of action, which guide the company's inclusive policy:
- create an inclusive work and study environment for LGBT+ people;
- ensure equal rights and treatment regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity;
- support victims of discriminatory comments or acts, and guarantee appropriate listening and support services;
- measure progress and promote best practices, in order to bring about lasting changes in the professional environment and study conditions in higher education.
Through this renewal, the University of Montpellier is reaffirming its commitment to an ever more inclusive university community, where everyone can develop in a climate of trust, respect and equality.
