May by bike
Congratulations to the entire Montpellier university community! Thanks to your commitment and energy, Mai à Vélo 2025 at the University of Montpellier was a real success. 13,131 kilometers were cycled by the entire university community during the month of May 2025, placing it among the top schools and universities with more than 500 pupils and students.

13,131 kilometers covered by a mechanical bike means 2.23 kilograms of CO₂e * emitted, compared with 144 kilograms by an electric bike, 1,358 by an electric car and 2,857 by a combustion-powered car!
* CO₂e = CO₂ equivalent, i.e. the unit of measurement created by the IPCC to standardize and measure the climatic effects of the various greenhouse gases.

Mai à Vélo is a national initiative to promote cycling in all its forms during the month of May. The event, which brings together local authorities, associations, businesses, individuals, schools and universities, encourages the adoption of cycling as a daily mode of transport. It's an ecological citizen initiative that highlights the benefits of cycling for health, well-being and the environment.
Much more than a simple means of transport, cycling embodies freedom and contributes to a more serene lifestyle. Over the past five years, Mai à Vélo has become a must-attend event for cycling enthusiasts in France, bringing together hundreds of players and thousands of participants. In 2025, the event reached a record number of participants, with 4,800 registered communities, 270,000 cyclists and 15.4 million kilometers covered collectively across the country - that's 385 times around the world!
In addition to promoting soft mobility, Mai à Vélo helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourages sustainable cycling all year round. On a national scale, nearly 3,400 tonnes of CO₂e are saved compared with the same journey in a combustion car.
Keep pedaling with the same enthusiasm, for a promising, more environmentally-friendly future! Ready on your handlebars? Go for it!
