Street Science: The “Greener City” exhibition at the Jardin des Plantes is still waiting to be explored!

Since May 24, the University of Montpellier has been inviting people of all ages to explore the exhibition “Street Science: A Greener City!”—a new augmented-reality science tour set in the heart of Montpellier’s Botanical Garden.

An exhibition with a clear focus

This scientific tour addresses a crucial issue of our time: urban greening. It invites visitors to discover the benefits of a greener city for well-being, health, urban biodiversity, combating heat islands, water management, and urban agriculture. It also prompts reflection on the choices that must be made regarding the plant species used, so that a greener city does not become a place where allergies and vector-borne infectious diseases are more common.

For this occasion, Mathieu Sicard, a professor at the University of Marseille, will be available until August 3 to welcome members of the press and give them a tour of the exhibition. To arrange a visit, please email him.

A scientific journey full of surprises!

This educational trail allows visitors of all ages to:

  • Discover or rediscover the Montpellier Botanical Garden,
  • Play by searching for the 12 panels that will reveal their secrets through augmented reality using a smartphone and the free Street Science app,
  • Learn about the challenges of urban greening: Why is it important to build a greener city for the future? What key considerations should be taken into account when greening a city?

The Street Science mobile app offers augmented reality urban scavenger hunts, providing a fun way to explore and learn. All of the scientific content for Street Science: The Greener the City! was developed by researchers at KIM RIVE (Risks & Vectors) as part of its “One Health” approach, which focuses on the sustainable management of vector-borne risks and their implications for human health and the environment.
