Université de Montpellier: "Rentrée Climat" at the Faculty of Education

From September 2, the 800 Master 1 students in the Faculty of Education at the University of Montpellier will be creating a "Climate Fresco" to raise awareness of the challenges of climate change.

A training program for the general public based on collective intelligence

Since late 2018, the association "la Fresque du Climat" has been working to get all individuals and organizations on board with the ecological transition, by enabling the rapid spread of a shared understanding of the challenge of climate change.

Decentralized, participatory operation

For the 1st time at the FDE, under the impetus of labex Numev which works with this association, and on the initiative of two trainers Périne Landois and Sylvie Jouan, supported by the Faculty of Education management, all first-year Master MEEF (Métiers de l'Enseignement, l'Education et la Formation) students will take part in this workshop. Lasting 3 hours, the workshop takes a systemic approach to understanding both the scientific mechanisms at work and the consequences for ecosystems and humanity. The work sessions, designed to be integrated into the Master MEEF curriculum, will take place: on September 2 on the Carcassonne, Perpignan and Montpellier campuses, on September 6 on the Nîmes campus, and on September 7 on the Mende campus.

University coherence

The project is part of a more global approach to training in societal and environmental transitions developed within the Faculty of Education, in line with the skills developed in ecology at the University of Montpellier, skills that are internationally recognized and applied throughout the region.

The teacher - citizen

With the creation of this mural, the FDE wants to raise awareness among its students of the crucial role they have to play with their students, citizens in the making, to encourage them to be thoughtful and critical players in the essential environmental and societal transitions.

An exhibition of the fresco will be scheduled at the end of these workshops, for schools in the Montpellier academy and the general public.

This event is co-financed by the Faculty of Education, the Labex NUMEV laboratory at the University of Montpellier and MGEN.
