Social Support and Social Assistance forUM Staff
The University of Montpellier places the well-being of its staff at the heart of its priorities, striving to provide an environment conducive to their personal and professional fulfillment. To this end, the University of Montpellier’s social policy, implemented by the Social and Recreational Services Department (SASL), is based on the values of equity, solidarity, and responsibility.
This employee welfare program supports and assists employees at various stages of their professional lives and improves their living and working conditions, particularly through services in the areas of dining, housing, childcare, and recreation. It also helps them cope with difficult situations.
The grants awarded by SASL also encourage participation in various activities. They help create a supportive work environment, foster social connections, and make it easier to balance work and personal life.
Social assistance payments made by theUM
Some forms of assistance are available to everyone, while others are granted subject to certain conditions. All of these benefits are provided upon request to the SASL, subject to the availability of funds.
Below are a few examples of financial aid offered by the University of Montpellier:
Restoration Assistance
The University of Montpellier has entered into agreements with 11 university-run restaurants as well as with the CROUS to allow staff to have lunch at subsidized rates at partner restaurants.
Daycare Spots
UM staff membersUM access reserved spots at partner daycare centers in Montpellier and the surrounding area. These daycare centers, located in several neighborhoods, make it easier for parents to find childcare close to home or work. The cost of childcare is shared between the parents and the CAF. Financial Assistance for Vacations, Leisure Activities, and Trips
The goal is to provide financial support to employees and their families for their vacations (camping, rentals, hotels, etc.).
Assistance for Expensive Medical Care
This assistance helps staff members and their children cover certain healthcare expenses, in addition to reimbursements from Social Security and their health insurance plan. Learn more (UM Staff)
Legal Assistance for Everyday Life

Other forms of assistance are also available, such as support for parents of children with disabilities and assistance with after-school care, etc.
UM social policy alsoUM to encourage and facilitate sports, recreational, and cultural activities for everyone, in particular by offering discounted rates on leisure tickets, accessible through membership in a ticketing service. This membership is free for staff; the university covers the cost. Other benefits are also available , such as cultural vouchers for books or performances, and event gift certificates (for births, weddings, and civil partnerships).

Relocation Assistance for Government Employees (AIP)
The Interministerial Relocation Assistance (AIP) is intended for new government employees, whether they are being assigned to the civil service for the first time or to priority neighborhoods. Assistance from SRIAS Occitanie (Regional Interministerial Social Action Section)
The Regional Interministerial Social Services Office offers various social services programs (available under certain conditions): weekend outings, vacation trips, sports vouchers, children’s magazine subscriptions, in-home childcare, and more. Visit the dedicated website.

CESU Vouchers / Childcare for Children Under 6
Subject to income eligibility, active civil servants may receive financial assistance for childcare for their children under the age of 6. This assistance is provided in the form of a universal service voucher (CESU). Visit the dedicated website.
Social support provided by staff social workers
UM social service assistantsUM support, follow-up, and tailored solutions to help staff members resolve their personal, family, and work-related difficulties. They draw on a network of internal and external professionals (including social workers, social services, the CAF, the MDPH, and others).
They can assist with various aspects of employees’ personal and professional lives. They provide support with administrative, financial, and family matters, as well as with housing and health issues. On the professional front, they support employees throughout their careers: onboarding, job mobility, workplace challenges, retirement, and more.
Special Financial Assistance and Interest-Free Loans
For staff members facing temporary and unforeseen financial difficulties: social service assistants can process applications for exceptional financial assistance or interest-free loans, which they submit anonymously to theUM social committee.
Social service assistants are available by appointment at their offices (Triolet Campus and downtown). For locations outside Montpellier, appointments can be made by phone, video call, or during in-person office hours. Home visits can be arranged for staff who are unable to travel due to health issues or a disability. All consultations are confidential and subject to professional confidentiality. Contact
