Student Life Spaces

In addition to the student activity centers located within each academic department, school, and institute, two student centers (MDE) and the (S)pace, located on the Richter and Triolet campuses, provide students with access to cultural, athletic, and club activities. 

MDE Aimé Schoenig (Richter site) 

Inaugurated in December 2006, the “Aimé Schoenig” Medical Teaching Building is located on the Richter Campus south of Montpellier. It is named in honor of Aimé Schoenig, a medical student who heroically lost his life in 1944.  

The Aimé Schoenig Student Center is home to other student life organizations:

Spaces available for your use

  • A performance hall with a capacity of 250 seats; 
  • An exhibition hall with a piano available for visitors to play;  
  • A music room and a recording studio;  
  • A flexible meeting room;  
  • A gym and a dance studio; 

The Richter Medical Center also houses a branch of the preventive medicine department and the office of the CROUS social services assistant.

A variety of activities open to everyone

  • Free movie screenings two Wednesdays a month; 
  • Concerts, theater performances, lectures, etc.;  
  • Workshops (sewing, public speaking, etc.); 
  • Food distributions;
  • etc.

To reserve a private room, a group room, or the recording studio, please send your request by email. Please feel free to specify your needs (type of room, preferred time slot, number of people) to help us manage your reservation.

MDE Françoise Barré-Sinoussi (Triolet website) 

Opened in February 1998, this MDE is located on the Triolet Campus. 

It is named after Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, a French researcher famous for her discovery in 1983 of the retrovirus responsible for AIDS, HIV. This major breakthrough in understanding the virus earned her the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2008.

Student organizations host screenings, concerts, exhibitions, and lectures throughout the academic year at the MDE Françoise Barré-Sinoussi. It serves as a vibrant hub for socializing and gatherings, and is also open to UM staff. These spaces can be reserved or rented.

  • Two music rooms equipped with musical instruments; 
  • A meeting room available by reservation; 
  • A fully equipped multipurpose room. 

hosting a variety of activities open to everyone

  • Concerts, plays, performances, lectures, film screenings (every month), and panel discussions;  
  • Community events;  
  • Workshops organized by the Student Life Office and student organizations (sewing workshop, theater (Taust), orchestra (Osem), etc.);  
  • Board games and role-playing games with the Licornes association; 
  • A free-to-play foosball table to unwind between classes; 
  • Food distributions;
  • Etc…

To reserve one of the MDE's spaces, please send your request by email. To help us manage reservations, please specify your needs (desired space and time slot, number of people expected).

(S)pace  

Located on the Triolet campus, the (S)pace features a fast-food outlet operated by the CROUS. It’s a place where you can relax, work, or socialize, either indoors or on the terrace. It also hosts workshops, exhibitions, and events. 

The first floor houses part of the Student Life Office (including the Social and Family Economics Advisor), the Student Life Office, offices for CROUS social workers, the Mission Locale, and offices for student organizations.
