Daily life

Enjoying your university experience also means enjoying everyday life. Finding accommodation, getting around, and eating out are all practical aspects that extend beyond the university walls and directly influence your daily life, playing an essential role in your success and well-being.

The University of Montpellier supports you in your efforts by offering useful resources and advice tailored to your situation.

Accommodation

Accommodation options

Crous university residences

The Crous is the main point of reference for student housing. It provides a wide range of university residences and other accommodation to suit different budgets and needs, located close to faculties, schools, and institutes.

Private housing and shared housing

Outside of university residences, students can look for private rentals, furnished or unfurnished, through private individuals or real estate agencies.

Shared accommodation is also a less expensive solution, which emphasizes sharing common spaces and daily life.

Several platforms facilitate the search for apartments or roommates: leboncoin, se loger, la carte des colocs, colocation 40+, Proby, etc.

Social housing

In Montpellier, the social landlord ACM Habitat offers student rentals in several neighborhoods of Montpellier, close to universities, schools, institutes, and all amenities. It is not necessary to be a scholarship recipient; only the student's income is taken into account (not the parents' income).

Intergenerational housing

Intergenerational housing is one of the more economical alternatives for those looking for affordable rent. Sharing a home and providing small daily services is an opportunity to live in a supportive community while reducing housing costs.

If you have a disability and have any questions or concerns about accessible housing, please contact us by email.

Housing assistance

CAF

The Family Allowance Fund ( CAF) is a public body responsible for paying social benefits and financial assistance, subject to certain conditions.

The CAF online simulator allows you to estimate the amount of assistance you may be eligible for.

Visale device

Completely free of charge, the Visale scheme acts as a guarantor for students under the age of 30. It makes the process easier for you by strengthening your application and, if necessary, covering your rent in the event of payment difficulties. If a delay occurs, Visale pays the amount owed directly to the landlord, and the tenant then repays the amount advanced.

Easy file

This service allows you to create a simplified, comprehensive, and secure digital rental file to maximize your chances of finding accommodation.

Eat

The various campuses of the University of Montpellier have several dining areas managed by the CROUS. In total, 6 university restaurants, 22 cafeterias, and 7 brasseries are available to students on UM campuses, including Montpellier, Perpignan, Béziers, and Nîmes.

In Sète, in agreement with the CROUS, a special service for IUT students is provided at the Lycée Charles de Gaulle (38 rue Robespierre, 34200 Sète).

The Carcassonne Inter-Administrative Restaurant (RIAC), located at 37 rue de la République in the city center, welcomes you to its dining area. Thanks to the Crous social catering service, you can enjoy meals for €1 if you are a scholarship recipient or €3.30 if you are not.

The campus in Mende offers a dedicated student area with a hot and cold drinks machine, sweet snacks, a refrigerator, and microwaves. In addition, the student community can enjoy the inter-administrative restaurant on Boulevard Lucien Arnault.

By creating an Izly account, you can enjoy discounted prices at university restaurants: €1 for scholarship recipients and students in financial need, and €3.30 for other students. You can sign up for an account at the Crous.

Once a week, free food distributions are offered by the UM's BVE in student residences, in partnership with the Linkee association, for students in need.

Social and financial support

If you are experiencing financial, administrative, or social difficulties, whether related to housing, food, or other needs, the University of Montpellier and the Crous offer additional assistance programs.

The Social and Family Economics Advisor, Student Life Services, and Crous social workers are here to listen to you, guide you, and support you throughout your university career.

In addition to the services offered by the University, other external programs can support students in their daily lives.
